Our Town Gallery

Bury Art Gallery and Library

This magnificent building was built in just over two years at a cost of £21,259 and was opened by the Earl of Derby on 9th October 1901. It houses a valuable collection of paintings which had been owned by local industrialist Thomas Wrigley. It was a condition of the gift of these to the town that the works should always be kept apart from others and for that reason the building contains dedicated 'Wrigley' Galleries. Despite this there is insufficient room for all the paintings to be displayed at once.
